Places gas water heaters 18 in above floor as required by the National Fuel Gas and Plumbing Codes. Galvanized sheet metal of 18 ga thick holds up to 50 gal water heaters. Many local building codes require a water heater stand for gas water heaters located in areas where the accumulation of combustible fumes may occur.
